Parental Controls Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why does Nintendo require signed permission forms?

A signed permission form is required to ensure that the parent/guardian of a young child is aware of the child's interest in participating in Nintendo's online activities, and to establish a parent/child relationship in our database. We protect personal information for all our customers!

  • If I request to be cc'd on the e-mails my child receives, what will I receive?

You will be copied on all e-mails your child receives associated with their My Nintendo activities, such as newsletters, forgot password, and profile updates.

  • How long are parental controls good for?

If the parental controls are established on a child, they are valid until your child turns 13 years of age.

  • Do I need to send in a permission form for each child I want to become a member of My Nintendo?

If you are setting up your children with a My Nintendo account at the same time, a permission form will be needed for each child. If you have a child that is already set up with a My Nintendo account, it is possible to add additional children without sending in another permission form.

  • How do I add an additional child?

There are two methods to add another child: Online or by sending in another signed permission form.

Online - In order to add another child online, you, as a parent, must have an active My Nintendo Online Membership that is associated with your child. A child can be added in the Parental Controls section of your account.

If you provided a unique e-mail address at the time the first child's permission form was processed, you should have received an e-mail with a temporary username and password. If you still have this e-mail, please follow the directions provided and complete your online registration. This will allow you to add an additional child through your own account.

If you no longer have the e-mail we sent, please use the forgot password option by entering your original e-mail address you provided with the permission form. An e-mail will be sent with a temporary username and password and directions on how to complete your online registration.

If you didn't provide a unique e-mail address when you sent in the Parent/Guardian Permission Form, but now have one and would like to become a registered member of My Nintendo, please call our Consumer Service Department at 1-800-255-3700. We will update your member file with your e-mail address and you will then be able to register online.

Signed Permission Form - If you do not have a unique e-mail address, it will be necessary to send in a new signed permission form to add a child.
