Forecast Channel
Wii console owners can get free local weather forecasts after accessing
the Forecast Channel. When connected to the
Internet, the WiiConnect24 service automatically updates local weather
information. In addition, users can choose to view the weather forecast
anywhere in the world.
What sort of information do you need?
Accessing and using the Forecast Channel:
- With the Wii console properly connected online (how
to), use the
Wii Remote to select
"Forecast Channel" from the Wii console's main menu.
Please note that you must have received the latest update to the Wii console in order to access the Forecast Channel. If there is a system update available, you will be automatically prompted to download it when you connect online.
First Time Set Up:
When accessing the Forecast Channel for the first time, you will be required
to submit your region and verify basic information to begin
the Channel update. From that point on, your selected location will have
its most current weather displayed on the channel's Main Menu.
- From the Wii console main menu, use the Wii Remote (player 1 only)
to select the Forecast Channel, then select Start to begin.
- The screen will go blank for a few seconds as the console retrieves
the channel information.
- You will be asked to verify your date and time. Selecting Yes will
move you on to the next step, while selecting No will take
you back to the Wii Menu where you can adjust your date/time settings.
- Choose the region closest to where
you live, by using the Wii Remote to scroll down or
up the region list by clicking the arrows at the bottom of
the screen. When you find your preferred region, select it
by pressing the A Button on the Wii Remote.
Local Weather:
The local weather settings allows you to view current local
weather conditions and provides options to view future weather
forecasting for up to 5-days (U.S. only). When starting the
channel you will automatically be shown your updated weather
forecast information for the location you have selected.
There are several options you can configure to customize the
way you view your forecast. Using the Wii Remote, point
to the arrow on the top or bottom of the screen and press the
A Button to view the different options:
- Current
The default view showing current
weather conditions in your location. Selecting the weather
icon on the right side of the screen will bring up a sub-screen
with the weather for the next six hours.
- UV Index
Allows you to view the current Sun Ultra Violet rating.
- Today
Provides a summary of today's local conditions.
- Tomorrow
Provides a summary of today's local conditions.
- 5-day Forecast
Briefly summarizes expected weather for the next 5 days
in your selected location. This is not available outside
the U.S.
Global Forecast:
The Global Forecast Channel, or Globe, allows you to take
control of a 3D model of the Earth and view the current weather
forecast of selected locations around the world.
When entering into the Global Forecast area, you will begin
zoomed in on a bird's eye view of your current location. Using
your Wii Remote to point and accessing the menu options, you
will be able to manipulate your viewing perspective.
- Zoom feature
You can select "Zoom -" (in) or "Zoom +" (out) by using
the remote to point to the desired option on the left or right sides at
the top of the screen.
- Next
Selecting this option will alternate between an icon of local weather conditions
to the actual temperature.
- Tilt
Selecting the tilt arrow at the bottom of the menu allows you to tilt the
viewing position. For instance, you can change the default bird's eye
view to a horizontal view.
- End
This will take you back to the Local Forecast main menu.
- Free Roam
For a custom view of the planet, press and hold the A button on any area
of the planet. You can spin the planet model around by "pulling" the
Wii Remote to either direction.
Settings:
The following settings can be changed in the Forecast Channel.
Click on an option for more information.
Region
Use this setting to change the default region for the Forecast Channel, which
will then require you to choose a specific location to have it's most recent
weather information displayed on the Main Menu. To change "Region" settings:
- From the Forecast Channel main menu, use the Wii Remote (player 1 only)
and select "Settings" on the right corner by pointing and selecting
with the A Button.
- On "Closest Location," select the "Change" button by
pointing and selecting with the A Button.
- At the list of locations, scroll down to the bottom of the list by hitting
the down arrow at the middle of the screen.
- Select the last option, "Choose from other regions."
- Using the Wii Remote, you can scroll down or up the region list by clicking
the arrows at the bottom of the screen. When you find your preferred region,
select it by pressing the A Button on the Wii Remote.
- Next you will be asked to choose the location closest to where you live.
Using the Wii remote, you can scroll up or down to view the listed regions
by clicking the arrows at the top or bottom of the screen. When you find
your preferred location, select it by pressing the A Button on the Wii Remote.
- You will be asked to verify if the information is correct. Select "Yes"
to confirm, or select "No" to go back to the region select screen.
- When setup is completed, you will be taken to your current local weather
forecast screen.
Location:
Use this setting if you wish to change the default location
for the Forecast Channel, which will then display the most
current weather information for the location you have selected
on the channel's Main Menu. To change "Location" settings:
- From the Forecast Channel main menu, use the Wii Remote (player 1
only) select "Settings" on the right corner by pointing and
selecting with the A Button.
- On "Closest Location" select the "Change" button
by pointing and selecting with the A Button.
- Using the Wii remote, you can scroll down or up the region list by
clicking the arrows at the bottom of the screen. When you find your
preferred region, select it by pressing the A Button on the remote.
- You will be asked to verify if the information is correct. Select
Yes to move forward or select No to choose your location again.
Temperature Display
This setting allows you to change the temperature display to use fahrenheit or celsius. To change this setting:
- From the Forecast Channel main menu, use the Wii Remote (player 1 only)
to select "Settings" on the right corner by pointing and selecting
with the A Button.
- Under Temperature Display, select the "Change" icon.
- Select the "Back" button on the left corner to use the current
setting.
Wind Display
This setting determines if wind speeds are displayed in kilometers per hour(kph) or miles per hour (mph). To change this setting:
- From the Forecast Channel main menu, use the Wii Remote (player 1 only) select "Settings" on the right corner by pointing and selecting with the A Button.
- Under Wind Display, select the "Change" icon.
- Select the "Back" button on the left corner to use the current
setting.
Troubleshooting
- Unable to get a 5-day
forecast for areas outside of the US
The "5-day forecast" feature is only available for locations within the U.S.
- Error Message: "Unable
to download latest information. Please make sure Wii Connect 24 is enabled"
In order to receive downloads for the Forecast Channel, you must
have your Wii console set to allow both "WiiConnect24" and "Standby
