Wii Message Board
The Message Board lets keep in touch with friends and family through
the Wii console. If you have a broadband internet connection, you
can exchange pictures and messages with other users of your Wii console,
and you can also exchange messages with your Wii Friends and receive
news on upcoming games, events, and more.

Accessing the Wii Message Board
- With the Wii console properly connected, power on the console to reach
the Wii Channel menu.
- Use the Wii Remote to move the cursor over the Wii Message Board
icon (the envelope in the bottom-right corner) and press the A
Button.

- You can now open a message by moving the cursor over it and
pressing the A Button.

Reading Messages
- Access the Wii Message Board (how to).
- Use the Wii Remote to move the cursor over the message you would like
to read, and press the A Button.

Writing a Memo
"Memos" are created when you are sending a message to another
person who uses the same Wii console as you. They are visible
to anyone who has access to your Wii console. They are not
sent over the internet.
- From the Wii Message Board main menu, select the "Create
Message" icon.

- Select the "Memo" icon.

- Move the cursor over the text area of the message and
press the A Button to open the virtual keyboard.
- Enter the text by moving the cursor over the desired letter
and pressing the A Button.

- To attach a Mii, select
the Mii icon, then select the Mii you would like to use.
- Select "Post" to post your memo. It will then be visible
by anyone with access to the Wii console.
Using the Calendar
- From the Wii Message Board main menu, select
the Calendar icon.

- Select a date on the Calendar to to open the
Message Board for that day.

Writing a Message
"Messages" are created when you are sending a message over
the Wii Network Service to another person's Wii console
or email address.
Please note: You
must have a broadband internet connection (more),
and register your Wii Friend in the Address Book (how to).
(If you are wanting to just send a message to someone in
the same household as you, that is a "Memo." Click
here for information.)
- From the Wii Message Board main menu, select the "Create
Message" icon.

- Select the "Message" icon.

- Select a Wii Friend to send a message to from the address book, and then press the A Button.

- Move the cursor over the text area of the message and
press the A Button to open the virtual keyboard.
- Enter the text by moving the cursor over the desired letter
and pressing the A Button.
- To attach a Mii, select
the Mii icon, then select the Mii you would like to use.
Please note: This feature only works when sending a Message
to another Wii console.
- Select "Send" to send your Message.
Replying to a Message
"Messages" are received over the Wii Network Service from
Wii Friends you have added to your Address Book. Please
note that in order to send or reply to a Message, you must
have a broadband internet connection and have registered
your Wii Friend in the Address Book.
(You cannot reply to "Memos" posted locally on the Message
Board.)
- Access the Wii Message Board (how to).
- Use the Wii Remote to move the cursor over the Message you would like
to reply to, and press the A Button.

- From the Message screen, select "Reply."

- Move the cursor over the body of the Message and press the A Button to open the virtual keyboard.
- Enter text by moving the cursor over the desired letter and pressing the A Button.
- To attach a Mii, select the Mii icon, then select the Mii you would like to use. (This option only works when sending your Message to another Wii console).
- Select "Send" to send your message.
Sending a Photo
You can send a photo that was posted to the Message Board
from the Photo Channel (how
to), or that was attached in an incoming message. Please
note that you can only send photos in a Message (over
the Wii Network Service), and not in a Memo.
- Access the Wii Message Board (how to).
- Use the Wii Remote to move the cursor over the Message that has the photo you
wish to use.

- Select "Send."

- Select a Wii Friend to send a Message to from the address book, and then
press the A Button.

- Enter the text by moving the cursor over the desired letter and pressing
the A Button.
To attach a Mii, select the Mii icon, then select the Mii you would like to attach to the message.
Accessing the
Address Book
Please note that
in order to access the Address Book, you must first connect
your Wii console online (more info).
- From the Wii Message Board main menu, select the Create
Message icon.

- Select "Address Book" icon from the available
options.

Using the Address Book
What would you like to do with the Address Book?

Please note, you can change the order or page of an entry by moving the cursor over the entry, holding down the A and B Buttons, and dragging the entry up or down the list or to the scroll arrows to put on a different page.
Registering
a Friend
Please note that
in order to access the Address Book and register a friend,
you must first connect your Wii console online. Please click
here for information connecting online.
- From the Wii Message Board main menu, select the Create
Message icon.

- Select "Address Book" icon from the available
options.

- Move your cursor over "Register" and press the A Button.
- You will have the option to select a Wii address, or an email address for a PC or cell phone.

Important Notes about PC and cellphone email addresses:
- To communicate with someone using a PC or cell phone, they must "reply" to
an email that is sent from your Wii console once you enter their email
address in your Address Book.
- If you are entering a cell phone's email address, it must be the phone's
full email address with a "@". For example, 5555555@phonecompany.com.
If the owner of the cell phone is not sure if their phone
has an email address, they will need to contact their cell
phone service provider for more information.
- You may want to inform the person you are adding to your Address Book that they will receive an email from your Wii console with an address that begins with a "w" and contains 16 digits. It will be from "@wii.com" (for example: w1234567891234567@wii.com).
- You will not be able to send photos from your Wii console to the PC/cell
phone user.
Use the virtual keyboard to enter the email address and nickname for the
friend.
Editing or Deleting Wii Friends
- Move the cursor over the Wii Friend nickname in the Address Book and press the A Button.
- Select from Change Nickname or Erase.
Note, if you erase a Wii Friend entry, it will be permanently deleted from your Address Book.
View your Wii Number
- Open the Address Book to page 1.
- Move the cursor over the left scroll button and press the
A Button to view your console's Wii number.
