Component Video and Progressive Scan

In order to use the Wii Component Video Cables, your TV will
need to have component inputs such as these.

Component Video and Progressive Scan Information
Using the Component Video Cables can improve the picture quality of your games, resulting in sharper colors and a cleaner picture. This can be done in one of two ways:

  1. Component Video Signal
The Component Video Cable provides a component video signal from the Wii to your TV. This signal is able to display a richer and cleaner picture than what is displayed with the Stereo AV Cable.

What you need for a component video signal:

      • A set of Wii Component Video Cables. These cables can be purchased from Nintendo's Online Store (click here), by calling our Consumer Service department at 1-800-255-3700. You may also find Wii Component Video Cables at Amazon.com, Best Buy, Circuit City, GameStop and the Nintendo World Store in New York, NY.
      • A component video-capable TV. Check your television for green, blue, and red video inputs (see diagram above), or consult the owner's manual for your TV.
  2.

  3. Progressive Scan Signal
The Component Video Cable is also capable of transmitting a progressive scan signal to the TV. With a progressive scan signal, the TV is able to display a sharper and clearer picture. To do this, the Wii game being played must be programmed for progressive scan, and your TV has to have the ability to display this signal in progressive scan mode.

What you need for a progressive scan signal:

      • A set of Wii Component Video Cables. These cables can only be purchased from Nintendo's Online Store (click here), by calling our Consumer Service department at 1-800-255-3700. You may also find Wii Component Video Cables at Amazon.com, Best Buy, Circuit City, GameStop and the Nintendo World Store in New York, NY.
      • A component video-capable TV that supports progressive scan signals. Your television will need to have component inputs (see diagram at top of page); but just because the television may have these inputs, it does not mean it can display signals in progressive scan. Consult the owner's manual for the television, or contact the manufacturer to find out if your TV can support progressive scan.
      • In order to view the game in Progressive Scan, you must select "ED or HDTV (480p)" through the TV Resolution option in the Screen Settings (how to) of the Wii console.
