Message Board Troubleshooting

This section covers troubleshooting information for the Message Board, where users can send and receive Memos and Messages. What kind of information do you need?

"Message Board Data is Full" error

This message appears when the Wii console's internal system memory is full. One of two things will now happen.

    • If an SD Card is inserted, the option to transfer messages to the SD Card will appear. If this is selected, a set number of messages will be saved to the SD Card, starting with the oldest.
    • If an SD Card is not inserted, the oldest messages will be deleted automatically.

"Be careful about posting too many messages" warning

This message appears if a large amount of messages are posted at a time.

    Can't reply to a "Memo"

    Memos cannot be replied to.

More about Memos: Memos are created when you are sending a message to another person who uses the same Wii console as you. They are visible to anyone who has access to your Wii console, and they cannot be replied to. You must create a new Memo (how to) in order to post a response.

Not able to receive emails with images

    • The Wii console is able to receive images in .jpg format. Any other types of images cannot be viewed and may be undeliverable.
    • Some web-based email services format attached images in a way that is not compatible with the Wii console.

Multiple messages being received from Nintendo

If you are receiving multiple copies of the same Message Board messages from Nintendo, it is likely due to your Wii console being connected through a proxy server. Proxy servers handle the internet connections for a network of multiple computers, and are usually found in places like businesses and college campuses. Some home Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use a transparent proxy server as well. Multiple messages can appear in the Wii's Message Board because the proxy server is assigning a new date for when the information was last modified. Because the message is being modified, the Wii console sees this as a new message and continues to receive it over and over. This is not an issue with the Wii console or Nintendo's servers. To potentially resolve this issue, please try the following:

      • If you're connecting through a proxy server:
Try disabling the proxy server or connect the Wii console from outside of the proxy server. If you are unable to do so, you will need to contact your proxy administrator to request that they not change the modified date on objects received through the proxy. They may be able to disable this on a per domain or per user basis. If so, the administrator should disable this setting for the nintendowifi.net domain (including all subdomains).
      • If you don't know if you're connecting through a proxy server:
Try contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to request that they not change the modified date on objects received through the proxy. The ISP may be able to disable this on a per domain or per user basis. If so, the ISP should disable this setting for the nintendowifi.net domain (including all subdomains).
      • If the above options do not work:
If none of these options work for you, you can try leaving an unopened message in your Wii Connect 24 message area. This may prevent additional emails from being delivered. If this does not work, you may want to consider turning off the Wii Connect 24 messaging (how to) until you can use the Wii outside of a proxy server.
