Super Smash Bros. Brawl

How to play online with friends

Play Super Smash Bros. Brawl with people you have registered in your Friend Roster. In order to register friends, you and your friends must exchange Friend Codes with each otherand both register them. Once you have successfully registered, there are three modes in which to play with your friends: Brawl, Team Multi-Man Brawl, and Home-Run Contest.

  1. From the Main Menu of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, use the Control Pad and A/a or 2 Button to select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."
  2. When you are asked if you want to connect, select "Yes."
  3. Select the "With Friends" icon, then choose your mode of play. You have three choices:
  4. Brawl: Same as the regular multiplayer brawl, but you battle your registered Friends over the WFC service (2-4 Players).
    Team Multi-Man Brawl: Cooperate with a Friend to take on multiple enemies (2 Players).
    Home-Run Contest: The object is to launch the sand bag as far as possible. The farther, the better (2 Players).

  5. Once you have selected your game mode, select "Create a Room" for your friend(s) to enter. Select "Yes" to create the room.
  6. Your friend(s) will need to select the room you created, and select "Join Game," then "Yes" to join the game.
  7. The player who created the room (Player 1) will need to select "Ok!" as each player attempts to connect to allow them in.
  8. Once all of the desired friends are connected everyone can select their character.
  9. If the mode allows for it, Player 1 will choose the stage. After that the match will begin.

    How to find your Friend Code

    1. From the Main Menu, use the Control Pad and A/a or 2 Button to select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection".
    2. When you are asked if you want to connect, select "Yes."
    3. The game will attempt to connect to the servers. If the connection is successful, your Friend Code will appear on the confirmation message.
    4. After you have connected to the Nintendo WFC service, select "With Friends," then "Friend Roster." Your Friend Code will be displayed at the top of the screen.

     

     

    How to add a Friend Code
    Use these steps to add another player's Friend Code to your Friend Roster. When both of you have entered each other's Friend Codes, you can play Brawl, Team Multi-Man Brawl, and Home-Run Contest with friends only.

    1. From the Main Menu, use the Control Pad and A/a or 2 Button to select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."
    2. When you are asked if you want to connect, select "Yes."
    3. Select the "With Friends" icon, then select "Friend Roster."
    4. Select "Enter Friend Code," then use the numbers on the screen to enter the Friend Code.
    5. Your Friend will also need to enter your Friend Code for both of you to be able to play together.

     

     

    How to remove a Friend Code
    Use these steps to remove another player's Friend Code from your Friend Roster. By doing this, you will no longer be able to play in friend-only battles.

    1. From the Main Menu, use the Control Pad and A/a or 2 Button to select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."
    2. When you are asked if you want to connect, select "Yes."
    3. Select the "With Friends" icon, then select "Friend Roster."
    4. Select the Friend you wish to erase, then select "Erase From List." Select "Yes" to confirm.

How to play online with anyone

Play anonymously with the next available players who connect online, in one of two game modes: Basic Brawl and Team Battle.

  1. From the Main Menu of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, use the Control Pad and A/a or 2 Button to select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."
  2. When you are asked if you want to connect, select "Yes."
  3. Select the "With Anyone" icon, then choose your mode of play. You have multiple choices:
  4. Basic Brawl: Start a quick battle with the first available player(s) (2-4 Players).
    Team Battle: Form a team with the first available player and battle another team of two (2 Players vs. 2).
    Spectator Mode: View random previously-recorded matches. (more info)

  5. Once you have selected the mode of play, the game will attempt to match you with the next available player(s). After you have been matched with anotherperson, the game will allow up 60-70 seconds to find a third person before starting. When a third person is found, you will have another 70 seconds for the match-making service to find a fourth person. When the 70 seconds has expired, or a fourth person has found, you will be taken to the next step.
  6. All players must select the character they wish to battle as.
  7. One player must choose a stage. After that, the game will begin.

How to use "Spectator Mode"

"Spectator Mode" lets players view random, previously-played online matches. Spectators can bet coins on the outcome of the match.

Important: The Spectator Mode option will appear 24 hours after you have connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the first time. If you don't see this mode listed, wait 24 hours and then check again.

How to access "Spectator Mode":

  1. From the Main Menu of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, use the Control Pad and A/a or 2 Button to select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."
  2. When you are asked if you want to connect, select "Yes."
  3. Select the "With Anyone" icon, then choose "Spectator Mode."
  4. If "Spectator Mode" does not appear, 24 hours may not have passed since you first connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Wait until the 24 hours have passed, and then check again.

  5. Adjust the coins you wish to bet on the winning team. When the timer runs down, the replay of the match will begin.
